The first large-scale expansion and upgrade to the building that houses The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation’s two world-class museums — the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum and the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum — broke ground in April 2017. The art museums are open during the expansion project Construction. The 65,000-square-foot expansion, which began in September 2017, is nearly complete.
2020 marks a year of special events at the museums, from the opening of the new guest-friendly entrance, to new exhibitions in our seven new galleries where we can display objects from our collections that have spent too much time in storage. In fact, curators and conservators are busy preparing collections for these new spaces. Learn more about what this means for the textiles collection below:
“The Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg will soon take their rightfully prominent place in the Williamsburg landscape, and we are thrilled.”
