Enjoy a leisurely ride through the Historic Area by horse-drawn carriage or ox wagon. Surround yourself with the sights and sounds of our unique city, far removed from the bustle of modern-day streets. Celebrate an anniversary in 18th-century style or enjoy a ride with your family. With a horse-drawn carriage or ox wagon ride, it’s truly the most authentic way to take it all in—or sit back, relax, and let it all go.
A Carriage For All Occasions
From cozy and intimate to spacious and open—we have a variety of carriages. For larger groups ask about our wagon that can seat up to 9 passengers. We do our best to accommodate your selection, which may be made at the time of ticket purchase.

Ox Wagon Rides
Take a step back in time and go for a ride on an 18th-century ox wagon and enjoy a beautiful view of Palace Green.
How & Where To Buy
Carriage and wagon rides operate daily, weather permitting. Tickets may be purchased at the Lumber House Ticket Office (on Duke of Gloucester Street across from Palace Green), or the William Pitt Store (on the corner of Duke of Gloucester Street and Botetourt Street) on the day of use. These rides are a popular experience and often sell out quickly, so we recommend making your reservation as early in the day as possible. Guests staying at a Colonial Williamsburg hotel or with a current admission ticket or annual pass receive a $5 discount on carriage rides.* All guests 18 months and older will need a ticket. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Tickets for the Red Carriage can now be purchased online. For more information, or to purchase tickets, click here.
