WILLIAMSBURG is delighted to present the second Designer in Residence project, highlighting the historic Nelson-Galt House and featuring the work of interior designer Heather Chadduck Hillegas. A Virginia native, Hillegas is an acclaimed, Birmingham-based decorator and textile designer known for relaxed elegance rooted in tradition. Explore the interior of the oldest frame house in Virginia (circa 1695) and discover how Hillegas reimagined these spaces for today using paints, fabrics, wallpapers, and more from the WILLIAMSBURG licensed lines, as well as antiques and décor curated to complete the story.
The tour will go room by room on the first floor of the home highlighting décor from our program sponsors, including Benjamin Moore, Schumacher, Ferguson, Paul Montgomery Studios, The Shops at Carolina Furniture of Williamsburg, and more. Anticipate spending approximately 30 minutes on the tour.
Designer in Residence is a collaborative initiative established by WILLIAMSBURG, the licensed product brand inspired by the historic and iconic design influence of Colonial Williamsburg. This project makes no structural changes to the home, to preserve and protect the original history of the residence. The Nelson-Galt House is one of the many private, non-exhibition buildings owned by Colonial Williamsburg, and is only open for these select tour dates.
Parking is available in the nearby Tavern paid parking lot across Francis Street. Parking at the Visitor Center is available, and you can take the shuttle bus to the Tavern stop and walk down the block to the Nelson-Galt House.
**Please note that this event is not ADA accessible. The interior spaces of this home are not conducive to wheelchairs, scooters, and strollers.
